About Agrothen

"Agrothen" is an ancient Greek word meaning "from the fields". Our organic herbs come from the fields of Alexandros, a traditional mountain village on the Greek island of Lefkada in the Ionian Sea. Our mountainous land, far from any pollution, the ideal microclimate and soil composition, as well as the rich sunshine of the island are the most significant factors in producing herbs of the finest quality with natural aroma and strong flavor. All our herbs are known to grow naturally in the area for thousands of years. In ancient times, they were widely used for a broad range of naturally occurring medicinal properties. Our small family business, aims to provide you with the finest quality products by ensuring they comply with organic standards and by using traditional techniques combined with some limited technological methods both in the growing and further management of the herbs (in harvesting, drying and standardization). Production at all stages is certified by independent organization Bio Hellas (CC: E-351680). Our cultivation began in 2013 and at present we cultivate Oregano (Origanum vulgare ssp. hirtum), Sage (Salvia officinalis) and Thyme (Thymus vulgaris) in 12.000m². By the spring of 2018 we will have increased our productive basis to 20.000m² and will have enriched our herb variety with Mountain Tea (Sideritis scardica), Chamomille (Matricaria chamomilla) and St. John’s wort (Hypericum perforatum). From our lands, to your hands...

In Greece, oregano can be described as the king of herbs as it is an essential ingredient in most recipes. Its aromatic, warm and slightly bitter taste is always reminiscent of the Mediterranean. Apart from the unique aroma and flavour, modern research shows that oregano and oregano oil have effective antibacterial and antifungal properties as well as important antioxidant properties.
